Play "Just Desserts"

Set in a rural Kentucky home, this poignant one-act drama recalls the era after the Civil War when women in Kentucky took action against the injustice of English common law regarding property rights, wages, and possessions. The central characters, Aunt Jane, a forward-thinking mountain sage, and Sally Ann Flint, an activist for women’s rights, strike at the power structure of their community with far reaching results.

Dynamic and entertaining, Just Desserts is based on the fictional stories of Eliza Calvert Hall, a Kentucky Equal Rights advocate. Hall published these slices of rural country life in l907 under the title, Aunt Jane of Kentucky.

"I cordially recommend the first chapter of ‘Aunt Jane of Kentucky’ as a tract in all families where the menfolk tend to selfish or thoughtless or overbearing disregard to the rights of their womenfolk."
Theodore Roosevelt
Lansing, Michigan 1908

"An exciting, visual portrait of rural Kentucky women at the end of the Nineteenth Century. Just Desserts is full of characters you will root for and regret walking off stage. Theatre with a visual lilt that will remind us of our aunts, grandparents, and even ourselves."
